<subfield code="a">Water pollution has been increasing in recent times and Malaysian waters are no exception. Traces of heavy metals have been found in rivers and water sources from industrial and agricultural run-off and improper waste disposal. Hence, the most effectiveand efficient method of pollutant removal used today is the adsorption process. The experiment was conducted where each heavy metal was treated using HCl and vinegar pre-treated corn cob. The Chromium, Manganese, and Lead ions were acquired from theschool lab and mixed into their respective solutions with 2g/l, 80mg/l, and 2g/l concentration respectively. The corn cob was bought from the local market, washed, dried, grinded, and sieved using 3.5mm sieve. It was then pre-treated using HCl and vinegar for 24hrs and then dried. For Cr, Mn, and Pb using HCl-treated corn cob, maximum percentage removal was 58.75%, 98.68%, and 77.18% respectively. The maximum percentage removal for Cr, Mn, and Pb using vinegar-treated corn cob was 71.50%, 98.00%, and 74.25% respectively. The performance of corn cob pre-treated with vinegar was better than those pre-treated with HCl. This may be due to the acetic acid in vinegar which removes both hemicellulose and lignin, exposing more surface area to be used as binding sites. Furthermore, the equilibrium data showed that this experimentfavoured the Freundlich isotherm, as seen from the R2 values of each adsorption experiment, confirming the heterogeneity of the adsorbent. Hence, corn cob pre-treated using HCl and vinegar was proven to be effective in the removal of Cr, Mn, and Pb ions</subfield>
