<subfield code="a">The groundwater contamination cannot be classified as surface water contamination. Inorder to determine the application of the groundwater, the chemical, physical andbacterial characteristic has to be analyse. The development of land as well as theagricultural activities is going on upstream of the Old Repas Dam in Bentong, Pahang, the water quality is expect to deteriorate as a result of contaminants getting into the waterbodies from various non-point sources (NPS). In consideration of pollutant travel throughwater bodies, therefore it is important that the investigation of water quality need to becarry out to determine whether it is responsible for the discolouring of the water. Thisresearch objective is to analyse the parameter of heavy metals associated with the past tinmining activities and compare it against the National Water Quality Standard (NWQS)for Malaysia. And also to determine the groundwater quality status and classify thegroundwater?s quality according to the water quality index(WQI) adopted in Malaysia. The WQI will be mainly focused on the six selected parameters which include BiologicalOxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), Dissolved Oxygen (DO),pH, Suspended Solid (SS) and also Ammoniacal Nitrogen. With these few parameters, the water quality index (WQI) able to be calculated. Furthermore, the test for 6 heavymetals which are Arsenic, Lead, Zinc, Copper, Tin and Aluminium are to be carried outdue to determine the effects of past tin mining activities to the water quality. Due to thelimited financial support, there are only Six heavy metal test will be carried on whichinclude Arsenic, Copper, Lead, Tin, Zinc and Aluminium. Throughout this groundwatermonitoring and investigation, there are two types of test that will be carry on. Abstractionwell, a well that using a machine to drill a hole from the ground surface till thegroundwater level. In additional, observation well is to identify the potential changes ofquality and flow within the groundwater.</subfield>
